ON THIS PAGE WE WILL GO INTO SOME MORE DETAILED INFO ABOUT OUR COBRA SNAKEHEADS. THIS WILL ALL BE FACTUAL   AND NOT SENSATIONALISTIC MEDIA HYPE.

*COBRA SNAKEHEADS GET APPROXIMATELY 3 FT AND 8-9 LBS AS ADULTS-this is contrary to reports of 30lbs and 4 ft--this is a blatant exageration. larger specimens have been caught and animals of up to 15lb are thought to exist, but these are super rare.

*SNAKEHEADS DO NOT WALK ON LAND OR VOLUNTARILY LEAVE THE WATER-one of the most common misconceptions. These fish do not leave the water or walk on land. They do not leave areas to look for food and do not crawl from one body of water to another.

*SNAKEHEADS CANNOT LIVE OUT OF WATER FOR DAYS-another common one. They can and do breath air, but left out of the water will die in a short time. If kept moist they can live longer than other fish, but not days at a time. The cobras we have are actually a fragile fish and not nearly as hardy as some other species.

*SNAKEHEADS ARE NOT GOING TO SPREAD ALL OVER THE STATE AND COUNTRY-not likely-the snakeheads we have are cobra snakeheads which are a different type than there northern cousins(channa argus) which can handle cold. More than likely they will be restricted to much the same range as the peacock bass.

*COBRA SNAKEHEADS DO NOT ATTACK PEOPLE-this is another regular question. I have caught many many snakeheads and have never been or attempted to be bitten by one.  Not once. Have never had one come after me or  attempt to molest me in anyway--they are actually very shy fish and usually run away at the first sign of humans.

*COBRA SNAKEHEADS ARE NOT FEASTING ON AND DESTROYING NATIVE LARGEMOUTH STOCKS-after long term investigation it is being realized that snakeheads are not really having much of an impact at all on peacocks or largmouth. As a matter of fact, it is very common to see both peas and largemouth feeding on snakehead fry. Tarpon and snook also love them and I have caught both while reeling in snakeheads.

*THERE IS NO LAW THAT SAYS YOU MUST KILL SNAKEHEADS-this is the most common misconception. There is no law in this good country or state that says you must kill any animal of any type. It is however  ILLEGAL to kill them and throw them up on the bank. It is the official view of the fisheries dept that they should be kept and eaten, however there is no kill order in effect.

SNAKEHEADS HAVE BEEN KNOW TO CARJACK BANKFISHERMAN AS THEY WALK BACK TO THEIR CARS- I honestly cannot confirm or deny this one. You know sometimes when you are walking down somewhere and you think you hear someone or something walking behind you?--sometimes I get that feeling after snakehead fishing and look back. I have heard several unconfirmed reports of snakehead car jacking which usually ends up just being a harmless joy ride--some reports say they will even fill your car up with gas prior to leaving it abandoned with the keys under the front mat--again--not sure about this one
